Il nuovo nell’antico | Paolo Zermani
On December 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., the Mantova Campus of the Politecnico di Milano will host a lecture by architect Paolo Zermani entitled Il nuovo nell'antico (The New in the Old).
The meeting represents a valuable opportunity to learn more about one of the most interesting architects on the international scene, capable of engaging with the contemporary world while maintaining deep roots in history. His architectural language, austere and reserved but never admonishing, acts as a stimulus and a solicitation, offering visions of a world to believe in and choose to belong to.
Among his works, it is worth mentioning the architectural and liturgical renovation of the Basilica of St. Andrew in Mantua (2015), the reconstruction and restoration of the castle in Novara (2016), and the new exit of the Medici Chapels Museum in Florence (2023). These projects bear witness to a timeless architectural language that confronts history and at the same time dialogues with the present.
Paolo Zermani is full professor of Architectural Composition at the School of Architecture in Florence and visiting professor at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio since 2014. Founder of the Identità dell'architettura italiana (Identity of Italian Architecture) conferences and director of the Museo Italia master's program, he has been a member of the Accademia di San Luca since 2007 and winner of the Feltrinelli Prize for Architecture awarded by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in 2018.
The conference is a preview of Paolo Zermani's book Il nuovo nell'antico. Architettura e paesaggio italiano (The New in the Old: Italian Architecture and Landscape), to be released in December.
